Concept cafes in Sapporo & Susukino: the 2026 guide

Almost all of Sapporo's concept cafes cluster in Susukino, the biggest entertainment district north of Tokyo — most shops are within a few minutes of Susukino subway station. Unlike Akihabara's daytime cafes, much of the scene here runs into the night as concept *bars*, which makes it a great after-dinner stop in winter.

What to expect

Daytime maid cafes work on a small cover charge (from as little as ¥300) plus orders; nighttime concept bars usually sell time-based drink plans instead. Cheki photos run ¥1,500–¥2,000 at idol-style shops. Staff rarely speak much English, but pointing at the menu works fine — and visitors are welcome.

• Maid in Shangri-La — Susukino's best-known maid cafe, ¥300 cover, easy first visit.
• Maidreamin Sapporo Tanukikoji — the national chain inside the Tanukikoji arcade, near Odori station.
• Ma-maid — idol-maid hybrid with live mini-stages.
• Bugkoi — maid-idol-cosplay bar, one of the district's most popular late spots.
• Cafe de NoahR — Sapporo's butler cafe, for a josei-muke change of pace.
• Nyatopia — cat-ear cosplay bar, very Susukino.
• Romantia and Majolica — anime-song concept bars where the playlist is half the show.

Tips

• The subway stops around midnight; the bars don't. Budget for a taxi if you stay late.
• Winter queues are indoors — another reason this beats standing in line in Akihabara in January.
